Flower Chant
The process of pressing flowers resembles the treatment of a corpse, like the preservation methods used for ancient mummies. The fresh flowers are picked while still not entirely dead, allowed to fully absorb preservative pigments through their stems, then dehydrated. Once completely dried, they are painted a second time, in an attempt to restore their original radiance. The way we treat flowers mirrors how we treat people—what we cannot let go of is the withering of the flesh. Once dried, their fragility is like life itself: as thin as paper, vanishing in an instant.
